Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. The issue of the Yellow River has become the biggest concern of members of the Chinese peoples Political Consultative Conference. My childhood, in fact, is closely associated with the river. My father is an engineering geologist, and he used to take me with him on his trips to the hydropower stations on the river. I enjoyed those trips, especially the trip to Longyang Xia reservoir. Although ten years have passed since my visit, I can still recall the scenery; I can still recall the water I saw at the reservoir. It was pure, clean and blue, not like the water I saw in the middle reaches of the river, which had turned brown and muddy after passing through the Loess Plateau.

Once during our stay at the power station, we were caught in a thunderstorm. And when rain stopped, I could see trickles of water rolling down mountain slopes and flowing into the reservoir. It carried little mud or sand, because at that time, trees and grass still grew around the reservoir. And they protected the soil. At Longyang Xia I was struck by the beauty of nature, and as a child I wanted to stay there and to grow up with our Yellow River.

Li Bai, the Tang Dynasty poet, said praises to the flowing water in the Yellow River. He saw it as coming down from heaven and nurturing the people along her way to the sea. Last year, when I was visiting Australia with a group of Chinese students who had won prizes in an English Skills Test, our Australian hosts invited us to join them for a horse-ride in the mountains. After two hours on horseback, we reached a valley, where there was a most beautiful meadow, with flowers in all colors dotted on a huge blanket of green. When I began to praise the beauty of nature, my friends told me that in this valley, there used to be a big mine and the wastewater from the mine turned everything brown. When the mine was abandoned, people made great efforts to restore the green vegetation. They also used the latest biological technology choosing the best grass seeds suitable for the local soil. So the beautiful meadow is a result of commitment, hard work, and new technology.

What happened to this valley in Australia should also happen to our Yellow River and, in fact, it is happening. I have seen farmers planting trees on mountains along the Yellow River. I have seen them climb the mountain tops with seedlings on their shoulders because they had no machinery. I have seen them pour on trees the water they had carried up in buckets from miles down the valley. These farmers are quietly nourishing our Yellow River, just as the river has nourished them.

And these farmers, men and women I don't know, gave me the confidence that we and our Yellow River will grow together, and someday in the future, we will be able to drink the clean water from our Yellow River again, because she is our dearest mother.

每个人都希望自己的人生风和日丽，莺歌燕舞。但月有阴晴圆缺，人有旦夕祸福，挫折和失败总是不断地踩痛我们的心。我们是把失意的怨气撒在孩子身上，还是收起此时内心的苦楚用微笑面对纯真可爱的孩子？我想没有人愿意选择前者，因为你的心中有爱！鲁迅先生有句话“教育是植根与爱的”。是的，爱是教育的源泉，教师有了爱，才会用伯乐的眼光去发现孩子们的闪光点，才会对自己的教育对象充满了信心和爱心，才会有追求卓越的精神和创新的精神。

however, it has been really hard to coordinate my work and my family.

it’s generally considered great to be an air traffic controller by the public, for the job is believed to be well-paid and quite easy. i was also one of them before i started the work. but things have been entirely different from what i used to think. as an air traffic controller of the new century, we’re facing tasks and barriers greater and harder than ever, that is, we have to ensure the safety and order of the fast-developing civil aviation. we’re burdened with pressure, responsibilities, the trust of hundreds of pilots, the lives of tens of thousands of passengers, and the hopes of millions of families. every step we take, every word we say is connected to the safety of passengers. and disasters may occur if we’re even a little bit careless. then, how can that be easy?

as a man who owns a family, i also have to take care of my family. still, it isn’t that easy. since i took the job 10 years ago, i haven’t had enough time to be with my family. so many festivals have i spend with microphones, but not my family and friends, just because my job needs me. so many times have my wifecomplained about my returning home late and having meals outside often, just because my job needs me. and so many times, my mom or dad is sick in bed, but i cannot be there with them in time, just because my job needs me. i cannot fully devote myself to my family because my job needs me, a lot of people need me. and again, as a man with a family, how can that be easy?

even though i’m not competent as a father, a husband, and a son, i still love my family. my daughter once said that it was her happiest time to see me back from work. and it’s the same with me. i’m pleased and grateful to see that my family can support and understand my work and my little devotion to them.

i have made many sacrifices as an air traffic controller. i really feel sorry for my family. but as i help pilots find their destinations under terrible weather conditions, and then hear “thanks” from them, i’m satisfied. and as i see planes taking off and landing safely, and make sure that hundreds more families can get together, i’m comforted. i even seem to be able to see the happy smiles on their faces.

such is my job, though i cannot enjoy much of the happiness my family brings to me, i can experience the sense of responsibility through my work. i’ll never regret this, regret choosing my job. it is through these years that i know what responsibility and devotion really mean. and it is through these years that i realize what family really means to me---supporting and understanding. i really appreciate them.

with my family as an anchor for me, i firmly believe that i can overcome all the difficulties on my way, and make a contribution to the cause of air traffic control. and i believe, i am, and always will be a member of civil aviation, and my family as well.

I learnt a lot there. Id like to share it with all of you. Lets show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our er and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, lets make a fist. Where is our future? Where is our love, career, and life? Tell , it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves.

We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Dont cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past, weve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. Weve learnt that we cant choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesnt mean you dont have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesnt mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.

As what I said at the beginning, "we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite". The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, lets be the owners of ourselves, and speak out "We are the world, we are the future."
